Church of the Cross is a Christ-centered congregation that is part of the Presbyterian Church (USA).  Many people who visit here for the first time say that we are not a “typical” Presbyterian church, in that our worship style is more informal and less traditional than many other churches in our denomination.  That is intentional on our part, as we seek to blend both traditional and contemporary elements as we worship together as the family of God.

Member Testimonials

Visitors are always welcome at COTC and be assured that we will not embarrass you while you are here.  We are always glad to be aware of your presence but you are welcome to “fly under the radar” for as long as you desire to do so.  When you walk in the door, we hope you are greeted warmly and made to feel welcome.  Occasionally we fall short on this but we want everyone who comes here to not only know that God loves them but to experience God’s love through us.

Believing the Bible to be the word of God and still as vital and relevant today as ever, we seek to base our corporate life together, as well as our individual lives, on His word.  The Sunday morning messages are always Bible based, helping us to understand what it meant to its original hearers and what it means for us today.  Various classes, Bible studies and small groups are available, all of which aim to help us understand and apply God’s word to our everyday lives.

We understand that ultimately Church of the Cross does not exist for itself but to serve God by serving the community and world in which we live.  As a result, mission involvement is very important to us.  In 2015 , in addition to the $48,461 that was given through our Mission Budget, COTC members contributed an additional $30,146 in special gifts and offerings for Haiti child sponsorships, the CROP Walk, Project Angel Tree, Living Waters for the World, and more.  This total amounts to 16.3% of our total annual Operating Budget.

But our commitment to mission goes beyond just giving money as we give of our time and abilities as well.   Various COTC members are regularly involved with many local projects including Habitat for Humanity, Erie City Mission, the West Millcreek Food Panty, Kairos Prison Ministry and others.  We have also had groups go to Haiti, the Dominican Republic and Honduras to assist with mission work in those countries and our youth dedicate time to serve the community we live in (Church has left the building.)
